The .45 cal 200 grain SWC is a special one. In the world of 1911 shooters and bullseye competitors, this bullet is practically royalty. It’s the legendary H&G #68 design, and there’s a reason it’s been the “gold standard” for decades.
If you spend any time around 1911s, you know that some guns can be a bit ‘finicky’ with what they eat. But then there’s the Stateline .45 caliber 200 grain Semi-Wadcutter. This is the faithful H&G #68 profile, and in our book, it’s the most reliable feeding target lead bullet ever designed for the .45 ACP.
The history on this one is pure pedigree.
This design was the answer to the feeding issues early shooters had with wadcutters in semi-autos. The most brilliant part of this design is the nose length and profile. It was engineered so that the distance from the case mouth to the tip of the bullet mimics a 230-grain round-nose. When that round leaves the magazine, the nose hits the feed ramp at the exact same angle as factory ball ammo. It’s like feeding a round-nose, giving you flawless cycling in a platform that used to be notoriously picky. Stateline stays true to that legacy, casting these with a BHN of 16 and a clean base that makes high-volume reloading a breeze.

I’ve used about 1000 of these bullets in my 1911 over the last year and have had perfect reliability and excellent accuracy. I load them with 4.8gr of titegroup at 1.225 coal. I suggest when loading that you set the crimp separately from setting the coal otherwise it shaves a little bit of the lead and makes a mess. Took some time to get the crimp as I wanted it, but I went through 200 one day, and I had zero problems. Accuracy was good (probably better than I am), and my 1911 Series 70 WITHOUT being ramped had ZERO failures to feed. This will be my go-to bullet from now on.

I’ve shot 300+ of these over the past year, comparing to my previous favorite lead cast target bullets of the same weight and style, as well as a few very old plated custom target bullets I saved from the 1970s. These have been the equal of my old faves, and for the lower price are a better deal. 100% consistent so far, feed just fine in my Gold Cup. And the owner is very pleasant to talk with.

These shoot great out of my Series 70 Colt. I weighed twenty bullets chosen at random from two different Stateline orders and found the weights to be consistently at 200 grains with an extreme spread of .5 grain. Clean bullets too, the lube stays where they’re supposed to which helps keep my dies clean. The bullet themselves are also nice, no dings, wrinkles or blemishes. I loaded up and shot two 8-shot groups to make sure everything was in order before loading up a couple hundred. At 10 yards I had a 1.2″ and 1.9″ group which made me happy. Bullets came securely wrapped with a nice note from the owners.
